Top seed Swiatek dumped out of Australian Open in third round

In a stunning upset at the Australian Open, 19-year-old Linda Noskova, ranked No. 50, came from a set down to defeat World No. 1 Iga Swiatek with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. This victory not only marks Noskova's advancement to the fourth round of a major for the first time but also ends Swiatek's impressive 17-match winning streak dating back to September.

Swiatek, who had only lost to a younger player once before, faced a determined Noskova, resulting in her earliest exit from the Australian Open since 1979. Noskova's triumph is a significant upset, considering Swiatek's recent dominance and her status as the top seed.

The match showcased Noskova's resilience and determination, earning her fourth career victory over a Top 10 player. This notable achievement came in her Grand Slam debut in Melbourne, where she proved her prowess against the reigning World No. 1. The last teenager to achieve such a feat at a major was Petra Kvitova in the 2009 US Open.

Noskova's journey in the tournament is particularly remarkable as she is only participating in her sixth Grand Slam main draw. Her victory over Swiatek demonstrates her growth in the sport, especially considering that she faced Swiatek in the Warsaw quarterfinals last July, losing 6-1, 6-4. Noskova's success adds an exciting twist to the Australian Open, showcasing the unpredictable and thrilling nature of professional tennis.
